Born to a Russian father and French mother, Carine Roitfeld had style flowing through her veins since the day she was born. Her presence on the front row of every major catwalk show in New York, London, Milan & Paris is without a doubt something that could never be forgotten. Her impressive CV includes French Elle, consultant and muse for Tom Ford at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent for six years. Dubbed as "Anna Wintour's biggest competition" this style icon can certainly put together a look more flattering than Wintour herself!... (Yes, I said it). As much as I love Anna Wintour, there is something that always lacks in Vogue US.
However, when you open up Vogue Paris, it's a magical moment, every page is a story, every image makes you fall in to a land of make believe and fairy tales. Every page IS fashion.
Vogue Paris Editorials
I totally agree with everything you've mentioned in this post. I find Vogue US has become too concerned with celebrity status and consumerism that it has overshadowed the true essence of a fashion magazine. Roitfeld brings to French Vogue an edge, a point of discussion and debate where opinion is welcomed and encouraged. Fashion is after all an art form - what would be the purpose of creating an artwork that was mute? Although i understand Wintour's direction towards the magazine, it wouldn't hurt to bring back a little fantasy.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Carine is one sexy mumma.
in addition - one of my favourite editorials for Vogue Paris
